How do I tell my family and friends?
You don't owe anyone an announcement on day one. Many people practice quietly at first; Islam counts kindness to parents as worship, whatever they believe. Tell people when you're steady, not when you're raw.

You need sincerity, not a degree. The shahada is one sentence; everything after it is learned slowly, the way everyone before you learned it. Nobody starts fluent.
